Dr. Sharma shares a few tips on Brushing and Flossing with Braces

Brushing with Braces

  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush designed for braces.
  • Brush your teeth gently in small circular motions for at least two minutes.
  • Pay special attention to the areas around the brackets and wires.
  • Angle the brush at 45 degrees towards the gum line.
  • Rinse thoroughly with water.

Flossing with Braces

  • Use a floss threader to guide the floss under the arch-wire.
  • Pass the floss between each tooth and gently slide it up and down.
  • Wrap the floss around the brackets and pull it through to remove food particles.
  • Repeat this process for all teeth.
  • Rinse thoroughly with water.

Additional Tips

  • Brush and floss at least twice a day, after meals and before bed.
  • Use a fluoride toothpaste to help prevent cavities.
  • Consider using an interdental brush or water flosser to reach tight spaces between teeth.
  • If you experience any discomfort or bleeding while brushing or flossing, consult your orthodontist.
